Competition rules (english)

•ADMITTED STYLES:

The following categories are admitted as BJCP 2021 Style Guidelines:

UNCONVENTIONAL

For these cathegory is intended a traditional way, with no modern interpretations on basic styles, trying to respect the main items of the styles. For example, not too much alcohol or chocolate character on a Robust Porter, no fruit added to Berliner Weisse, etc). It’s an open category without the mainstream style you could find in every competition, left out to let other styles a chance to be showcased and judged.

If there’s a style that someone want to be listed, maybe because it could be brewed for this competition (i.e. Dampfbier, BiΓ¨re de Liege etc.), please let it know to lostfoundhb@gmail.com also attaching and quoting a solid source.

LEGEND

There’s no chanche for present styles brewed in an old way (old porters, old saisons etc), but every year a famous beer recipe is admitted, as a bonus style.

This year it is Double Blanche, a stronger version of witbier, difficult to find. There are still few breweries that try to keep it alive, adding always unmalted wheat, coriander seeds, bitter Curaçao orange peel.

The recipe written by Phil Markowski in Brewing with wheat is strongly suggested and refers to Double White, a double blanche brewed at Southampton Publick House (USA), as there are no belgian recipes available anywhere. Just remember to find a classic witbier yeast to make sure about to brew within style guidelines.

Another inspiration could be the recipe on Radical Brewing book by Randy Mosher, but the other spices listed are not usual for a traditional version.
